Caroline Drake
What brings me the greatest pleasure in creating art is that it opens up a world of possibilities to myself and to my viewers regarding composition, ideas, colors, and shapes.
My work is mostly in collage, generally with bases and overcoats of acrylic paints and mediums. Vibrant color is often important. My joy comes in collecting and making papers, whether it be in thrift and antique stores, garage sales or in my own studio. I have a particular fondness for vintage papers and photographs.
My goal as an artist is to make viewers pause and experience some feeling, whether it’s curiosity, wonder, pleasure or sadness. I work in both narrative and abstract collage.
I have been making art since 2010, and I am self-taught. Raised in Cleveland, I spent ten years in New York City, and have lived in Seattle for nearly 30 years.
